The
mission of this committee is to encourage congregations and conferences to develop
and carry out intentional older adult ministry. The committee provides guidance
and a clearing house for resources to develop that ministry in the following areas: Educating
congregations as to the potential of Older Adult Ministries. Guidance
in the empowering older adults for ministry. Encouragement in the evangelizing
of older adults. Promotion of a health and wholeness approach to aging.
Provision for spiritual growth. Encouragement of learning and fellowship.
Promotion of understanding as to transitions that older adults face.
Intentional
Older Adult Ministry recognizes that at age 55 to 65 older adults are often setting
aside their formal working lives and considering new ventures. Looking to the
future, older adults are typically contemplating the next 25 to 30 years of their
lives and seeing: - Time
to work in less structured ways to serve others.
- A
need to try new ways of helping and being productive.
- A
desire to not be tied down to never ending projects.
- A
search for meaning to the part of our life when we moving toward less mobility
and eventual death.
We of the Older
Adult Ministry committee urge you to e-mail us so we can help you get started
on the road of discovery to this new congregational ministry.
