The Indiana-Kentucky Synod worship committee invites your conference to participate in an initiative that will experientially illustrate how God is at work, weaving together the diverse ministries, contexts, energies, and passions of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod's congregations into a rich and colorful tapestry bound together by God's love and grace.
We ask each of the 10 conferences within the Indiana-Kentucky Synod to facilitate a simple, collaborative weaving process that will result in the creation of 10 three-foot-by-50-foot woven panels. Linda Witte Henke, the liturgical artist within our synod who designed the project, will join these panels together into a single, large tapestry that will help define our 2012 Synod Assembly space and provide an enduring reminder of how God weaves together the Church's diversity into a calling of shared ministries.
Our vision is for the completed tapestry to debut at the 2012 Indiana-Kentucky Synod Assembly, scheduled for June 7-9 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, KY. After that, the tapestry will be available for use throughout the Church, including congregations of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod.
Linda Henke shows Pr. Rudy Mueller how to weave the fabric strips into the nylon poultry netting.
Your conference dean has received the following items:
1) a roll of nylon poultry netting;
2) a CD with instructions for how to put together the weaving from your conference; and
3) a small roll with a sample inside of what needs to be done and some extra clips.
Each conference dean will identify two or three people to coordinate creation of that conference's woven panel. These people will have responsibility for recruiting volunteers and ensuring that the volunteers assemble the fabric and weave the panel. Conference deans will encourage congregations throughout the conference to participate in the weaving process, and assure that the completed woven panel is sent to the synod office.
You can also read, download and print the instructions here. These illustrated instructions are colorful and complete and demonstrate the ease of assembly inherent in this project.
The dean of your conference might organize a one-day event where interested folks from across your conference come together and weave your panel or you might pass it around from congregation to congregation.
Please be sure to save your excess fabric strips (and any unused fabric) and forward them to the I-K Lutheran Center with your woven panel. These will be used to complete the assembled tapestry.
Be mindful that your conference's woven panel is one of several elements in this initiative. In order for the initiative to succeed, we need for you to forward your woven panel to the I-K Lutheran Center as soon as possible but absolutely no later than April 25, 2012.
Please deliver your woven panel, your excess fabric strips, and any unused fabric to:

Thank you for your participation in what promises to be a meaningful collaboration!
