Sending in your Congregational History
We are collecting information about your congregation, including membership statistics, significant anniversaries, noteworthy events and items, members entering the Lutheran ministry, pastors who have served the congregation, and parish realignment. If your congregation already has a written history, this would be the perfect opportunity to update it and send it in. The history project team members would prefer a concise history of approximately 2500-3000 words; however, depending on the age of the congregation, this may vary.
You can find other ideas by looking at the "The History of the Indiana Kentucky Synod" by Henry G. Waltmann (1971), and the "History of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod of the Lutheran Church in America 1970-1987." Both of these blue books are available in many congregational libraries.
The new I-K Synod history volume will contain a section on liturgical art. If your church building contains antique or contemporary stained glass windows, statues, a beautiful pipe organ, custom-made paraments or pottery, wooden carvings and decoration on the walls, altar, baptismal font, or anything like this that we might include in a section relating to sacred or liturgical artifacts, please take photos and email them to us, along with a description and date.
If you have any questions about what to submit or if you wish to help with this project, please contact Joe Skvarenina at joes@iksynod.org.
